Automated Mixed Depalletizing Using AI
Customer
The customer is a leading multinational manufacturer in the home appliances and consumer electronics industry, offering a diverse range of products including refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, mobile phones, computers, and televisions.
Case
Home Appliances Mixed Depalletizing
Tasked with retrieving boxes arranged in a semi-structured manner, often with varying degrees of rotation and proximity, the customer faced complexities in automating their depalletizing process for mixed pallet loads.
Challenge
Depalletizing Mixed SKUs
The challenges arose from boxes exceeding 200 cm in size, with diverse textures and dimensions complicating recognition for standard vision systems. The solution required a camera capable of operating within a 1.1m x 1.1m field of view, at a distance of 1.6m, with a precision of 10mm.
Solution
Streamlining Mixed Depalletizing with AI Vision
Solomon’s AccuPick bin picking solution seamlessly automates the depalletizing process, integrating with a Time of Flight (ToF) camera mounted on a gantry crane for flexible movement across the required field of view and working distance. To manage the varied textures and shapes within mixed loads, engineers combined 2D and 3D technologies for training the AI model, ensuring precise identification of box corners within the pallet and streamlining the picking process to meet customer requirements.
