Baby Bottle Nipple Bin Picking Solution

The customer needed an automated bin picking solution capable of efficiently picking 700 overlapped baby bottle nipples every hour.

Challenge

Detecting and Picking Translucent Materials

The bin picking system needed to identify multiple random orientations and precisely position the bottle nipples. This was made more challenging by the shape and semi-transparent material of the objects, which standard vision systems found difficult to detect accurately because of their translucent nature.

Solution

Smart Bin Picking with AccuPick + SolScan

The customer utilized Solomon’s structured light scanner, SolScan, to create a detailed point cloud. This data was combined with AccuPick bin picking software, which employs advanced deep learning technology to pinpoint the best picking points for each detected object. AccuPick also optimized the FANUC LR Mate robot’s motion path, enhancing overall cycle efficiency. Customized suction cups were used to securely grip each item, regardless of its orientation, ensuring precise placement during the bin picking process.
